Kate Spade New York is part of the tapestry house of brands. Our story began when Kate Brosnahan Spade, an accessories editor at Mademoiselle, was frustrated that she couldn't find the fashionable, utilitarian handbag she had been craving for years. She set out to design the perfect one out of her apartment.

Kate made samples out of construction paper, combining sleek shapes and colorful palettes in an entirely new way. She debuted six versions of a bag called "Sam," and women and fashion editors loved the designs. These sparked a revolution in accessories.
